Affiliate Blogger - Affiliate Tips: Kanoodle

Ros Gardner caught my eye today with her post about Kanoodle changing names and modifying their business strategies. It figures huh, right after Google dances on their affiliates again … we go over to Kanoodle and join, paying the stinking $1 for them to process us … really to get our credit card info, which is suspect … and then, they make these changes without notifing us in a timely manner.

Way to go Kanoodle/Seevast !!! Way to win friends and influence people. ;-)

I've had the new Kanoodle ads running now for about a month. Yeah, I was ahead of the Google beating most took. I have to say I'm not all that impressed with Kanoodle … okay, I'm not impressed at all and here's why.

Their ads are not relevant to the information on the web page, not even close.

Half the time their JavaScript code doesn't work right. For example, on some of my three-tall skyscrapper ads … where I should be getting three text ads, it only feeds one. Yeah, that looks real nice on the page. I replaced the code several times with the same results. I'm guessing that Kanoodle (Pulse 360) are trying to get to a place of relevancy, so their system screws up and only feeds one ad … which wouldn't be as bad except that the ad isn't relevant either to the information on the page.

Okay, so those are my personal observations with the newer Kanoodle (Pulse 360) contextual ads service. I'd really like to hear some feedback on what others are expereiencing.

Anyhow, according to Ros…

On August 8th, Kanoodle announced that they will break out their content targeted sponsored links business from Kanoodle into a separate business called Pulse 360. ContextTarget, LocalTarget, BehaviorTarget, and BrightAds will move over to Pulse 360.

Kanoodle will continue to offer search targeted sponsored links through their KeywordTarget product.

Each of their companies will be held under a new parent company, Seevast.

The changes should be in effect by late September, if not sooner. Advertisers will be notified via email when any changes are required.

Joomla! 1.0.12 Released

Tuesday, 12 December 2006
Joomla! 1.0.12 [ Sunfire ] is available as of Monday the 25th of December 2006 1:00 UTC for download here.

We suggest that all Joomla! users upgrade to this version.

Joomla! 1.0.12 features:

  • 140+ General Bug Fixes
  • Several low level security fixes
  • A full security audit of SQL queries
  • SSL switchover support

Although this release contains several security fixes, as they are of a low level nature, this release is still being characterized as a Stability Release.  If you are running a version of Joomla! older than 1.0.11, you should upgrade immediately to at least Joomla! 1.0.11 as that release addressed several important security issues.  If you are using Joomla! 1.0.11, we recommend that you upgrade to 1.0.12 as it addresses several long standing bugs and several low level security issues.

We are also pleased to announce the creation of a new Security Announcements Forum.  As the name suggests, this forum will be used for security announcements for the Joomla! core and third party extensions.  We strongly encourage that all Joomla! users register on forum.joomla.org and subscribe to this forum to ensure that they receive notification of important security issues as soon as possible.  We also encourage you to do same for all third-party extensions you use, where available.

How Blogs And RSS Boost Your Search Engine Visibility

Marketers have found that blogs are excellent tools for communicating with their audience. Anyone who has something to sell or an idea to promote can benefit from using blogs.
Search engine marketers especially favour blogs because they have a number of features that make them the darling of search engines.

1. Fresh, Updated, Relevant Content

When you write a good blog about a theme that youre passionate about and post to it frequently, youre creating fresh, keyword-rich, content that search engines love.

2. Natural, One-Way Links

Search engines view links to your site as a recommendation of your site content. More links pointing to your site or blog boosts your visibility and search engine rankings.

Google gives more weight to natural, one-way incoming links, and blogs make it easy to get two types of one-way links to your site.

· Similarly Themed Blogs

A well-written, authoritative blog, with unique content, is likely to get linked to from a number of other bloggers writing on similar topics. These are natural links that are viewed highly and given more weight by search engines like Google.

· RSS Feed Syndication

Blogs and the RSS feeds built into them, help you build valuable, one-way links to your site by syndicating your content online.

3. Get Indexed Within Hours

When you post to a blog it pings a number of services that list blogs. This notifies the service that your blog has been updated.

Search engines like Google give more weight to blogs that are updated regularly. It is possible to get your pages indexed in Google and other search engines within hours of writing your first blog post.

Compared to the time it takes to index a website (days, even weeks), you can see why blogs are better search engine optimisation tools than static websites.

Indirect SEO Benefits of Blogs

Besides the SEO benefits, a well-written, authoritative blog can also create publicity and branding for you, which promotes even more people to read and link to your blog.

Priya Shah is a partner in the search engine marketing firm, SEO & More.

2007: 5 Steps To A Successful Web Site

1: Accessibility

Search engines must be able to access your web pages. If search engines cannot parse your web pages, then they will ignore your site and you won't get good rankings.

Make sure that your web server does not return any error codes when search engine spiders visit your web pages. If your server returns an error code, search engines will not index your site.

The correct code should be "200 OK". You can check the status code that your web server returns to search engines with IBP's search engine spider simulator (free).

In addition, make sure that the HTML code of your web pages does not contain errors that prevent search engines from indexing your site.  The content of your web pages must make sense to search engines. Do not use images or Flash to present the main content of your web pages.

2: Site and information architecture

Your web site should have a good site architecture to make sure that it is not just a collection of random web pages. The pages of your web site should be related by topic and they should show search engines that your web site is relevant to a one topic or niche.

This is very important because most major search engines seem to use latent semantic indexing in their ranking algorithms.

3: Keywords choice

Choosing the right keywords is one of the most important steps that determines whether your SEO efforts are successful or not. Consider hiring an SEO Writer.

It's best to focus on 2 or 3 word keywords for search engine optimization. One word keywords are less likely to convert to a sale, and they are also much more competitive. So, focus on keyword clusters of two and three keywords together.

4: Content

Web sites that only offer articles and affiliate/AdSense links that can be found on dozens of other web sites will have a harder time getting search engine rankings.

Try to create unique and trustworthy content that separates your web site from the others. Write — and write more — unique content for your web site to make sure that your web site becomes the best resource of information for that topic/niche.

5: Inbound links

Without good inbound links, it is impossible to get high rankings on major search engines. You should get as many links as possible from related web sites. The more targeted and relevant the link, the more it will help your search engine rankings.
